The ‘Talk About It’ service has been used by schools nationwide to address such topics as abuse, bullying, cyber-bullying, pregnancy, runaway, self injury/cutting, stress, sexual harassment, suicide, violence, weapons in school, date rape, eating disorders, peer pressure, drug and alcohol abuse and depression.

School students and faculty have actively participated in developing the software used by AnComm to fit an educational environment. Within two weeks of implementing that system in 2001, an impending suicide was reported and prevented.

No software is ever needed by students or installed in schools. As a web-based service, all communications take place over the Internet via any web-connected computer.

Schools can also use the system for surveys, posting school announcements and community news.

A feature of the ‘Talk About It®’ service is the generation of periodic usage and activity reports, a critical resource that allows school administrators to see specifically which topics are being reported and how many messages are being sent. These reports allow school officials to spot trends and initiate prevention and education programs within the student body.

Bullying is widespread in American schools, with more than 16 percent of U.S. school children saying they had been bullied by other students during a single term (semester). Source: National Institutes of Health

According to a study conducted by the U.S. Department of Justice, 6 % of students reported carrying a weapon such as a gun, knife or club onto school property within the previous 30 days.

According to a study by the U.S. Department of Justice, 29 % of students in grades 9-12 reported that someone had offered, sold, or given them illegal drugs on school property in the previous year.

Twenty Six U.S. states have either enacted or are considering anti-bullying legislation. Twelve states, including Florida and Michigan are currently reviewing legislation designed to curb bullying in schools.

A growing number of schools and districts across the United States have already subscribed to AnComm’s ‘Talk About It®’ anonymous online and text based reporting service.

AnComm, Inc. was founded in 2005 when it purchased the non-profit Safety Organization for Schools (SOS). SOS originally developed the service (in 2001) as a response to increasing tragic events occurring in America’s schools, such as the Columbine and Pearl High School tragedies.
